Suspect Still at Large After Man Found Dead in Parked Car

AUSTIN, TEXAS: The Austin Police Department (APD) is actively investigating a deadly shooting after a man was found unresponsive inside a parked vehicle early Sunday morning in South Austin.
Officers responded to the 700 block of West William Cannon Drive on December 28, 2025, at approximately 9:12 a.m. following a report of an unresponsive male inside a vehicle.
Victim Identified
Name: Elias Mejia
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Gender: Male
Date of Birth: July 20, 1974
According to APD, officers arrived on the scene at approximately 9:21 a.m. and located the male, later identified as Elias Mejia, who was not breathing. Despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Mejia was pronounced deceased several minutes later.
The investigation remains in its early stages. Detectives believe Mr. Mejia was shot by an unknown suspect. At this time, the suspect has not been identified and remains at large.
Public Assistance Requested
Detectives are asking anyone who was in the area between 12:00 a.m. and 9:21 a.m. on December 28, 2025, to review any available surveillance footage, including home or vehicle cameras, that may have captured video or audio related to this incident.
Anyone with information is urged to submit tips through APD’s official reporting channels or by scanning the QR code provided by investigators.
