AUSTIN, TEXAS: The Austin Police Department (APD) is actively investigating a deadly shooting after a man was found unresponsive inside a parked vehicle early Sunday morning in South Austin.
Police responded to the 700 block of West William Cannon Drive on December 28 at approximately 9:12 a.m. following reports of an unresponsive male.
Victim Identified
Authorities have identified the victim as Elias Mejia, a Hispanic male born on July 20, 1974.
On Sunday, December 28, 2025, at approximately 9:21 a.m., APD officers arrived at the scene and located Mr. Mejia inside the vehicle. He was not breathing and was pronounced deceased several minutes later.
Investigation Ongoing
Investigators believe the victim was shot by an unknown suspect who remains at large. The case is still in the very early stages of the investigation.
Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance and are asking anyone who was in the area between 12:00 a.m. and 9:21 a.m. on December 28, 2025, to come forward.
