CHESTER: Two sisters who brutally attacked a friend following a night of heavy drinking in Chester city centre have been sentenced to prison. The violent assault left the victim unconscious in the street and was fully captured on CCTV.

Charlotte and Katrina Whitham appeared at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday 17 December, where they were sentenced to two years and eight months in prison. Both sisters pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The court heard that on Sunday 3 August, the sisters had been drinking with a 38-year-old friend for approximately nine hours before becoming involved in a verbal dispute on Watergate Street, which quickly escalated into extreme violence.

Katrina pulled the victim’s hair while Charlotte repeatedly punched her head and kneed her in the face. After briefly leaving the scene, Katrina returned and dragged the victim to the ground, pinning her down while Charlotte delivered more than 20 blows to her head.

Charlotte then attempted to break the victim’s arm by stamping on it twice. The assault was witnessed by CCTV operators who immediately alerted Cheshire Police.

Police tracked the sisters within 13 minutes of being notified. During arrest, one sister was heard telling officers, “oh yeah, I have done that.” Despite initial denials, both later pleaded guilty.
