JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va: A bald eagle has died after being struck by a vehicle along U.S. Route 33 near Ripley, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.
The bird was struck on Friday and was transported to the Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia (ACCA) in Morgantown for emergency care.
ACCA later confirmed the eagle suffered a severely fractured upper wing bone, spinal trauma, and extensive thoracic injuries. Despite intensive treatment including pain medication, antibiotics, and fluid support, the eagle died before surgery could be performed.
The conservation center praised the efforts of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, veterinary teams, and community members who assisted in attempts to save the bird’s life.
