HAMMONTON, N.J. (AP): Authorities on Monday identified the two pilots who lost their lives after their helicopters collided midair in southern New Jersey. The victims were Kenneth Kirsch, 65, and Michael Greenberg, 71, both longtime New Jersey residents.
Kirsch and Greenberg were close friends who often met for breakfast at a cafe near the Hammonton Municipal Airport. Witnesses said the two helicopters were flying close together before colliding and crashing into a nearby farm field.
Federal Investigation Underway
The FAA confirmed the crash involved an Enstrom F-28A and an Enstrom 280C helicopter. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are reviewing communications and flight paths to determine what led to the collision.
Residents described the incident as terrifying, with video showing one helicopter spinning rapidly before impact. The town of Hammonton, home to about 15,000 residents, remains shaken as authorities continue their investigation.
